If your child is approaching the age where he or she will be driving soon, you may be a little worried. It comes with being a parent, but there are things you can do to better prepare your kid for driving. Believe it or not, one great way to prepare your child for the road is with a golf cart!
If your children are over the age of 14, they are allowed to drive a golf cart. Driving a golf cart can help teens become familiar and more comfortable with driving before they actually drive a car. They can practice and become proficient at steering, using the gas, the brake and turn signals, checking mirrors and developing a more keen overall awareness of their surroundings.
In fact, golf cars are currently being used in certain schools, including Chapman High School in Spartanburg, South Carolina, to teach teens the dangers of risky driving behaviors. At Chapman, the students try to text while driving golf cars through safety cones. The end result is that they find out quickly that you cannot control what you are driving while using the phone.
With the proper supervision, within a safe environment, golf carts can provide your child with overall practice for the road while learning within a vehicle that is safer because it can’t go as fast as a car or truck. Golf carts can also come equipped with a host of safety equipment, including retractable safety belts, roll bars and cages, turn signals, rearview mirrors headlights and reinforced windshields with wipers.
